| Take sterile gauze and gently wipe and dry the area of the mucosa where the topical anesthetic will be applied. |
Place a small amount of the topical anesthetic on a sterile swab. |

| Apply the loaded cotton swab to the area to be anesthetized. After application allow to penetrate for 20-30 seconds (gel) and 10 seconds (liquid or spray), before injection, x-ray or procedure. |
